Biography

Dr. Tenyo Pearl is a committed educator, humanitarian, and mentor. She serves as the campus director for the Coppin State University (CSU) Nonprofit Leadership Alliance, where she coordinates the university’s Nonprofit Management Education Program. As a faculty member, Dr. Pearl is passionate about teaching the next generation of nonprofit leaders. Her teaching philosophy, rooted in Kolb’s experiential learning theory, reflects her belief that every student is unique and benefits from individualized and hands-on learning approaches. This foundational belief also guides her deep engagement in the community.

Dr. Pearl actively contributes to the life of the university through her service on several campus-wide committees and initiatives, including the High-Impact Practices, New Faculty Onboarding and Retention, the ASPS Department Peer Review Committee, and the annual Martin Luther King University Commemorative Committee.

Her professional career draws upon a wealth of experience in human relations, leadership coaching, and education. She is a licensed consultant with the Standards for Excellence Institute through the Maryland Association of Nonprofits (MANO). Dr. Pearl has collaborated with numerous nonprofit organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Maryland, Family and Children Services, and the Johns Hopkins Hospital Bayview Center for Addiction and Pregnancy.

Dr. Pearl earned her Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Morgan State University, a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke University, and a Certificate in Leadership Coaching from Georgetown University. She also holds a Master of Arts in Nonprofit Management from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, where she received the institution’s Highest Academic Excellence Award in Nonprofit Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Morgan State University.

A sought-after speaker and panelist, Dr. Pearl shares her expertise in nonprofit board governance, ethical leadership, management, and experiential learning. She is a certified Myers-Briggs Practitioner and Kolb’s Experiential Learning Practitioner. She has facilitated trainings and workshops for a range of organizations, including the Bon Secours Spiritual Center, the Alpha School for Boys in Kingston, Jamaica, Pikesville High School’s AVID Program, Women Accepting Responsibility (WAR), the Park Heights Family Support Center, Our House Family Support Center, Baltimore City Metro Delta Head Start, and Civic Works–Healthcare Career Alliance.

A native of Baltimore, Dr. Pearl remains active in several civic, social, and mission-based organizations. She has served as a board member and volunteer for the Parks and People Foundation, I AM Mentality, March of Dimes, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chesapeake, the Bea Gaddy Family Center, and the Baltimore Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. She is a former board president of the National Women’s Prison Project and a former executive board member of Women in Maryland Higher Education (WIMHE).

Dr. Pearl has participated in several prestigious leadership development programs, including Leadership Maryland and Leadership Baltimore County. Her dedication to education, community service, and civic engagement has earned her numerous awards and honors recognizing her commitment and excellence in leadership. She was also featured in Diverse: Issues in Higher Education as one of “40 Outstanding Women in Higher Education,” highlighting her exceptional contributions to the field.
